Alyssa, this was so relatable. I can’t even count how many times I’ve rushed little feet along on a walk so that we could get home maybe 15 minutes faster when all is said and done. And for what? How much have I missed out on by focusing on those “lost” 15 minutes and what could be gained by opening my hands and watching them float away on the breeze like so many dandelion puffs.

Yes and amen. The slowing down is so hard (and so worth it).

Ooh this was so good, Alyssa! I can relate. So often with my kids I have to verbally remind myself to slow down.

I remember so many moments like this when my kids were young. Do I lean into to their wonder of every small, beautiful detail in the world or move us along because of what it might mean for later? I was always thinking of later! I do miss seeing the world through a child's eye on a daily basis (my youngest is 14, although she did come to me very excited about chromosomes recently after reading her biology book, so the wonder is still there). Lovely writing and reflection.

I’ll look forward to seeing what continues to spark my kids’ interests as they grow.

Love this! Thank you for putting a name to it and putting poetic detail to the pressure we all feel. What a gift to see the beauty of nature through your daughter's eyes.

Littles provide such good perspective sometimes.

Love the personification of efficiency, and thanks for calling out the beauty of slowing down to savor life. 🙂 It definitely makes me want to notice what's around me right now!
